If I have purchased an older version of a product, can I test a newer version without penalty?

I purchased an Accusoft product some time ago (say, ImageGear 21). And, I'm interested in trying the current version. Can I download a trial and try it in a project without contractual issues? Or, is there anything involved, such as licensing or some agreement needed?
